The History of Holzhauer Graphics

We’ve come a long way in just over 20 years.

Our founder, David Holzhauer, started making hand painted real estate signs in his basement in 1985.  Since then, we’ve become one of the largest, most capable digital printing and graphics companies in the Midwest.

Below, you’ll find a brief timeline detailing when and where we started, and how far we’ve come since 1985.

We appreciate your interest in Holzhauer Graphics, and we look forward to working with you.

1985:  David Holzhauer establishes Holzhauer Sign Painting to offer production and installation of  hand painted signs for the commercial real estate sign industry.
1993:  Holzhauer Sign Painting moves to new home in Mequon, WI.  David’s sons, Hayes and Ryan, assist with sign installation services while they’re in college.

1997:  Hayes Holzhauer, living in Phoeniz, AZ, takes a position managing a successful franchise sign company located in downtown Phoenix.  While working there, Hayes learns the ‘ins and outs’ of operating a successful sign and graphics company.

1999:  Hayes and Ryan approach David Holzhauer with the idea of building on the established success and reputation of Holzhauer Sign Painting by moving the business into a retail shop and expanding the capabilities and customer base.  Holzhauer Sign Painting becomes Holzhauer Sign Inc. and moves to a 5,000 square foot shop on Milwaukee’s East Side.  During the same year, Holzhauer Sign Inc. purchases its first large format digital printer, a 48” Epson with indoor durable graphic capabilities.

2000:  Holzhauer Sign Inc. purchases an Arizona 180 solvent digital printer with 54” print width, and outdoor durable inks.

2002:  Holzhauer Sign Inc. chosen by Major League Baseball as preferred provider of signage for the MLB All Star Game at Miller Park in Milwaukee.

2003:  Holzhauer Sign Inc. purchases a Vutek 2360 two meter solvent inkjet printer.  Vutek printers, made in America, are the most cutting edge digital printers in the world.

2003:  Lacy, a dashing young Pug puppy, joins the Holzhauer Sign team as official company mascot and greeter.  Visits from customers and deliverymen immediately increase in frequency as everyone wants to spend a few minutes with Lacy.

2004:  With continued growth and success, Holzhauer Sign Inc. moves into a new 13,000 square foot facility in Brown Deer, WI.  This new facility has more production space, as well as graphics installation space large enough to accommodate a 53’ semi trailer.

2006:  Holzhauer Sign Inc. adds a Vutek 5330 five meter solvent inkjet to its stable of production equipment.  The Vutek 5330 is the world's largest digital inkjet printer (and it's made in America!).

2007:  In order to better reflect their large format digital printing and graphics capabilities, Holzhauer Sign Inc. changes it's name to  Holzhauer Graphics Inc.  Hayes and Ryan Holzhauer are featured in a Milwaukee Business Journal article entitled 'Transforming Dad's Business'.
